Sylvia is passionate about giving back to her community and advocating for disadvantage communities. She is vocal about gender issues and she unapologetically calls herself a feminist. At Xavier University she was involved in various activities, such as being a Student Government Association Senator, International Students Association President. Sylvia Volunteered with Catholic Charities Refugee Resettlement, Women’s Shelter and at Withrow High school tutoring immigrant students. Sylvia also participated in medical service trip to Guatemala with Xavier Interfaith Center and as Brueggeman fellow Sylvia did a research in Kenya and Tanzania on improving Maternal-Child Healthcare. At XU, Sylvia was awarded Outstanding Service Award, Muskie Junior Member of the Year Award and the Silver X-Key Leadership Award for her contribution to Xavier and Cincinnati community.
Sylvia is a MCW Global (mcwglobal.org) Alumni Mentor who guides young leaders around the world through vision planning and project development in their communities to impact social change. Sylvia believes in investing on young people through education, mentorships and empowerment, as they play a major role in positive change within our communities to eradicate poverty.
